Esteban Guerrieri stays with GOAT Racing for Kumho FIA TCR World Tour
GOAT Racing have strengthened their line-up for the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour with global touring car star Esteban Guerrieri confirming a second season with the Spanish team and its Honda Civic Type R TCRs.
The 40-year-old Argentinian, who took the fight for last year's World Tour title down to the final round of the season, will partner countryman Ignacio Montenegro in the JAS Motorsport-built cars.
Guerrieri scored GOAT Racing's first race win at Interlagos in July last year as he mounted a challenge for the World Tour crown; a challenge that included a podium finish at every one of the seven events and resulted in fourth in the standings.
He has been a constant title-challenger throughout his racing career; the 2003 Formula Renault Eurocup champion adding the runner-up spot in Indy Lights in 2011 and 2012 plus third in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2010. He has also been a race winner in the European F3 Championships, Superleague Formula and Argentinian TC2000.
He was a podium-finisher in the FIA World Touring Car Championship on his first weekend in a JAS-run factory Honda and claimed a dominant victory third time out to add to two wins earlier in the season in privateer machinery.
Five years of WTCR competition in the Civic Type R TCR netted a series record 10 race wins, 26 podium finishes and the runner-up spot in the 2019 championship.
He was also a race winner in JAS-built Hondas in TCR South America and in the TCR division of the gruelling Nurburgring 24 Hours
The TCR World Tour comprises eight events on four continents, starting in Mexico City on May 2-3 and finishing on the world-renowned Macau street circuit on November 15-16.
Esteban Guerrieri said: "I’m delighted to stay with GOAT Racing for a second season in the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour. We’re not a large team like some of the others, but we're small and dynamic, and that has its advantages, like making quick, effective changes that can totally transform a race weekend. We were very good at this in 2024 and that bred consistency, which kept us in the fight for the championship even if other cars were winning. We’re still underdogs, but everyone knows what we are capable of and I like that. Teaming up with Ignacio will be very good. I coached him as part of the JAS Driver Development Programme last year and have been very impressed so I’m sure together we can do a good job."
Pepe Oriola, Team Manager, GOAT Racing, said: "Having Esteban in the team again was our priority after an impressive first year together. He is one of the most successful touring car drivers in the world and his experienced helped make our team strong from the first round of 2024. Having him in the team is a guarantee of success, as he proved last year by arriving at the Macau finale fighting for the world title. I’m sure that together we will bring a good show to the grid. I’m very much looking forward for the 2025 season."
Mads Fischer, COO, JAS Motorsport, said: "After fighting for the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour title all the way to the Macau finale last year, we're very pleased to see again that GOAT Racing's Civic Type R TCR line-up will again feature Esteban Guerrieri; one of the best drivers to ever race a TCR car and somebody that has been a part of the JAS family since 2017. Last year was a lesson in how important consistency is in touring car racing as Esteban’s podiums at every event kept him in the championship hunt right to the final weekend. The team now have everything they need to be very successful in year two."
