First win for Piquet aboard Civic Type R TCR

Nelson Piquet Jr scored his first TCR South America victory on home soil in Brazil over the weekend to record the latest success for the Honda Civic Type R TCR.

There was also a podium finish for the similary JAS Motorsport-built Honda NSX GT3 Evo 22 on the other side of the world.

TCR South America/TCR Brasil

Piquet was untouchable in Sunday’s second race at Velocitta, which formed the latest round of both TCR South America and TCR Brasil, and resultantly won for the first time in both series.

The Honda YPF Racing driver made a good start from pole position on the partially-reversed grid and was never headed. Behind him, team-mate Leonel Pernia was third and – added to second in Saturday’s race – increased his South America series lead.

Team-mate Mariano Pernia was hit several times during both races on his way to 10th and ninth places.

In the Trophy class, Honda YPF Racing’s Adrian Chiriano was fifth and third to maintain his series lead while Porthack Racing newcomer Fernando Croce was fourth in both races.

British GT Championship

Bridger Motorsport’s Johnny Ip sealed the runner-up position in the GT3 Silver-Am class with a determined performance at Donington Park as the season ended with a two-hour race.

Ip and co-driver Jay Bridger – who has shared the car with the Hong Kong racer since mid-season and so was not himself in title contention – qualified second in class and began carving through the field as rain began to fall after 20 minutes.

Moving as high as fifth overall during this phase, Ip took the class lead and held it until the mid-race driver changes. While a second-place finish was not enough to claim the title, it did result in a 100 per cent podium record for the JAS-built NSX across the year.
