Four more titles for Honda Civic Type R TCR
The Honda Civic Type R TCR scored its 10th major title of 2025 on an ultra-successful weekend that featured four championship successes globally.
The JAS Motorsport-built touring car won the TCR South America Drivers’ and Teams’ crowns as well as two championships in TCR Spain as the incredible run of glory for the Civic continued with a 123rd title in total.
TCR South America
Leonel Pernia became Drivers’ Champion in his debut season in the series on a weather-affected weekend at Cuiaba, Brazil, while the Squadra Martino-run Honda YPF Racing squad secured their second Teams’ title in three years.
Pernia and team-mate Nelson Piquet Jr locked out the front row in qualifying and finished one-two in a wet opening race on Saturday night; Piquet storming through the field after an engine change forced him to start from the back.
That result put the destiny of the Teams’ crown beyond doubt, while a Race Two victory for Piquet ensured that Pernia was confirmed as the Drivers’ title winner, despite him spinning out.
Piquet’s results made him a double winner in TCR Brasil as Pernia is not registered for the series, and the Formula 1 podium finisher now leads the points table with one round to go.
Tiago Pernia and Mariano Pernia scored best results of fifth and sixth while Adrian Chiriano was second in the Trophy class in both races to retain his lead in the South America points. Porthack Racing’s Fernando Croce was fourth in class in Race One.
TCR Spain
TPR Motorsport also celebrated a double championship success as Mike Halder claimed the Drivers’ title and Rene Povlsen clinched the Master class crown.
Halder made sure of his second title with third and second-place finishes while Povlsen was second in class in Race One to put things beyond doubt after taking Master pole.
Ruben Fernandez won the Master class in both races; his Race Two finish coming in an excellent third place overall, while his Auto Club RC2 Valles team-mate Felipe Fernandez was fourth overall in Race Two.
ALM Motorsport’s Sven Karuse and Demir Eroge scored Master class podiums while team-mate Sten-Dorian Piirimagi endured a frustrating weekend, as did RC2’s Michael Markussen.
Super Taikyu
M&K Racing finished the season on a high as the #97 Civic of Shinji Nakano, Mitsuhiro Endo, Kento Omiya and Jack Young qualified on pole position in the ST-TCR class at Fuji and drove to a relatively untroubled victory in the four-hour race.
The sister car of Koji Yamanishi, Yosuke Yamaki, Osamo Kondo and Prapoj Cheunwichit finished several laps down in sixth with the returning Fett Racing Civic FK7 of Toshiro Tsukada, Yuji Kiyotaki and Hiroshi Nakamura in fifth.
Kumho FIA TCR World Tour
Esteban Guerrieri sealed third place in the end-of-season points with fourth and fifth-place finishes on the streets of Macau for GOAT Racing.
The Argentinian owed his opening-race result to a lightning start and some dynamic driving throughout.
Team-mate Ignacio Montenegro was an excellent fourth in Race Two while Pepe Oriola – racing at Macau for the first time in seven years – scored a best result of 11th in Race One after spending much of his time battling hard.
