JAS Honda Civic wins TCR Europe Team Trophy
The JAS Motorsport-Honda Civic Type R collected an incredible 11th title of the 2017 season as Target Competition became TCR Europe Teams' Trophy winners on Sunday.
The Italian outfit were the most competitive team at Adria International Raceway as Josh Files and Giacomo Altoe spent the entire weekend fighting for top-three spots on the timesheets.
British driver Files, the current TCR Germany and TCR Middle East Champion, qualified second and leapt into the lead at the start of Race One to take a commanding victory and the points lead.
Files looked set to take the Drivers' title for the first half of Race Two as he fought his way up from 10th on the partially-reversed grid to third overall.
Unfortunately, a drive-through penalty for contact with a rival put him back in the pack and despite a gallant charge to seventh on the road, he could only finish third overall in the Trophy standings.
Team-mate Altoe finished third in both races and was highly unlucky to miss out on the title on countback. Their second and third spots overall were, however, more than enough to assure Target Competition of the Teams' prize.
Mads Fischer, JAS Motorsport TCR Project Leader, said:"The TCR Europe Trophy is an opportunity for the top teams and drivers from the national TCR series in Europe to compete against each other. In Target Competition we have the German Champions running JAS Honda Civic Type R TCRs and we're very proud that they're now also Europe Trophy winners. Josh and Giacomo both drove extremely well and it's a shame neither could quite capture the Drivers' crown, but the Teams' title is a fantastic way for the team to end its season."
