Record-breaking victory for NSX GT3 crew in Thailand

Singha Motorsport Team Thailand drivers Piti Bhirombhakdi and Kantasak Kusiri made history on Sunday as they broke the all-time victory record for the Honda NSX GT3 at the final round of the Thailand Super Series.

With two further victories by Honda Civic Type R TCR across the weekend, more success came the way of JAS Motorsport customer teams.

Thailand Super Series

Piti Bhirombhakdi and Kantasak Kusiri arrived at Buriram second in the Supercar GT3 points and aiming for a second straight title aboard their Singha Motorsport Team Thailand NSX GT3 Evo 22.

Having started third in the weekend's opening race, Bhirombhakdi moved up to second early on and saw co-driver Kusiri take the lead at the mid-race driver changes, only to lose the advantage to his chief title rival half a lap later.

Their second-place finish took the title fight down to Sunday’s finale, which they won on dominant fashion from pole position. That win was the seventh for the duo, meaning they have now won more races aboard any evolution of the NSX GT3 than anyone else.

Their win moved them clear of IMSA title winners Mario Farnbacher and Trent Hindman, and former Blancpain GT Sports Club Champion Jens Moller, who they had previously been tied with on six victories.

TCR Asia

Diego Moran was another to take a pole position and a race win, but also to fall agonisingly short of the title as the season concluded at Zhuzhou, China.

The DM23 Ecuador Racing driver topped qualifying aboard his Honda Civic Type R TCR and finished third in a dry opening race on Saturday, to keep himself in with a shot of the title.

Unfortunately, his car did not move when the formation lap began at the start of Race Two, leading to a non-start and the end of his title hopes.

He did, however, bounce back with a Race Three victory to seal second in the points, having only contested just over half of the series' races. That win was the 60th victory of the year for the Civic Type R TCR.

Kumho FIA TCR World Tour

Those TCR Asia races had been run within the penultimate round of the TCR World Tour, which again featured the GOAT Racing Civics of Esteban Guerrieri and Ignacio Montenegro.

A tough weekend for the pair resulted in eighth and 12th places in qualifying and best results of eighth spots each, although Guerrieri had been running third in a wet second race before a technical issue caused him to retire close to the finish.

Victor Chan, driving a Norris Racing-entered Civic, scored a best result of 11th in Race Two.

TCR China

Frederick Lee marked his return to the series with a magnificent second-place finish overall and an Am class win for Team TRC as new MacPro Racing Team signing Siu Ming Man made it two Hondas on the category podium in third.

Completing a superb day in the class for MacPro, Man's team-mate Zhu Cheng was a season's-best fifth.

Spark Racing's Jerry Sun was third in class on Saturday while Norris Racing's Tony Chan qualified sixth and finished 10th in Race One and Spark Racing's Yunjie Zhou endured a trying weekend.

Running within the TCR China races, unusually, was the TCR China Challenge and Team TRC again proved ultra-competitive as their lead driver, Euan Chan, finished second in Race One and added third the following day.

His team-mate William Cheung was third and fourth in the two races while Tommy Ku, in the third Civic, was fifth on both days.
