Street-fighting men score major successes with Civic Type R TCR
Four more victories for the Honda Civic Type R TCR in Europe and Asia made for another successful weekend for the JAS Motorsport-built touring car.
There was also a podium finish for the Honda NSX GT3 Evo 22, which continues to fight for another major GT crown in Asia.
TCR Denmark
Malte Ebdrup was the big winner on what was his first time racing on the Copenhagen street circuit. The Mascot Motorsport with Racegroup driver won twice and added a third-place result to close to within five points of the series lead.
Points leader Mike Halder beat Ebdrup to pole position and was unchallenged in Saturday’s opener. He then recovered from sixth on Race Two’s partially-reversed grid to finish second.
He was out of luck in Race Three, however. Following minor contact with the rear of Ebdrup’s Civic, smoke began to pour from Halder’s right front wheel.
He had to pit for repairs, dropping him out of contention and promoting Jan Magnussen, of DM Racing, to third behind Ebdrup and reigning champion Kasper H Jensen, who was second and third in the other two races.
Ebdrup was also victorious in the Under-25s class in all three races to continue his unbeaten run in the category in 2025. Mathias Dall, of SD+ Motorsport, was second in all three races.
His team-mate and brother, Magnus, scored his first Am win in Race Three on a weekend when the category had three different winners for the first time in 2025.
Lars Hojris qualified on pole and won Race One while points leader Rene Povlsen, of TPR Motorsport, took Race Two.
TCR China Challenge/TCR China
Jerry Sun scored his first Challenge win on Sunday at Ordos on a weekend when the Spark Racing driver was dominant in the category.
He qualified on pole, stalled at the start of Race One, but showed strong pace to haul himself back to second place by the end of the race. That made him favourite in Race Two and he duly delivered a victory.
His team-mate Kenghei Leong recovered from a non-finish on Saturday to finish second in the Am class in the concurrently-run TCR China race. Norris Racing’s Weiqi Lu was fourth while team-mate Tony Chan retired on both days.
Thailand Supercar GT3
Piti Bhirombhakdi and Kantasak Kusiri continued their push for a second-straight title with a second-place finish in the first of two races at Sepang aboard their Honda NSX GT3 Evo 22.
Having qualified second for both races, a strong performance in the opener netted the runner-up finish for the duo, but Sunday’s encounter would be far more dramatic.
Running second upto the mandatory pitstops, the #12 NSX rejoined fourth with Bhirombhakdi at the wheel. He was up to second by two-thirds distance, but a sudden rainshower made for an unpredictable outcome.
Bhirombhakdi and his rival for the lead were the only drivers not to pit for wet tyres; affording them an advantage of over a minute over the rest, but this should have been enough to preserve their positions as they maintained laptimes within two seconds of the wet-shod drivers.
However, the appearance of the safety car, which was withdrawn with one racing lap to go, bunched the field and left the slick-shod NSX powerless to defend from behind. Bhirombhakdi finished sixth.
